Biographie / CV

Emmanuel Jelsch holds a Master’s degree in bio-chemistry and a diploma in organic chemistry and plant physiology from the University of Strasbourg. With an engineering degree in pharmacology from the EPHE (Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes, University of Paris) he worked as a research engineer in the Glaxo Laboratories in Les Ulis, France. Having graduated from CEIPI in 1996, he acquired an extensive professional experience in pharmaceu-tical and healthcare companies as a patent agent in charge of the patent departments with the Debio Group, Lausanne, and Bracco SA, Geneva. He joined KATZAROV in 2002. European Patent Attorney since 2003 and member of AIPPI and LES, Emmanuel Jelsch specializes in chemistry and biotech inventions and has a good knowledge of the field of medical devices and diagnostics as well. Since 2005, appointed as a WIPO expert for the Patent Agent Training course in developing countries. He also actively contributes in the updating of the Katzarov's manual on industrial property, a continually revised reference work providing comprehensive information on the protection of industrial property for 200 countries, all over the world with contributions from 140 authors. Appointed as technical judge for the Swiss Federal Patent Court since 2011, he is also an honorary Professor at the University of Sfax (Tunisia) and Professor at the EPFL (Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne) for the master in Bioengineering and Biotechnology. Since 2009, IP Expert for the Committee on Technology and Innovation (CTI Start-up), an initiative of the Swiss Federal Department of Economy, Emmanuel is actively coaching Swiss start-up companies for their IP audits including IP strategy and IP due diligences for potential exit.

Compétences

We assist clients in the formulation of their inventive concepts and seek protection for Swiss national, European or PCT applications in all technical fields with a particular expertise in chemistry and biotech inventions. Our services include state-of-the-art searches as well as opinions on the validity of third party rights and on infringement. We assist in developing application strategies and support the management of patent portfolios. Consulting services with regard to license agreements and other legal or administrative issues such as the monitoring and the payment of annuities are provided as well.
