Pascal Deschaseaux

MD by education, Pascal Deschaseaux obtained his MBA from ESSEC business school in Paris, France. After 5 years working as a physician in various hospitals in France, he joined the healthcare industry in 1990 and to date cumulates 17+ years of successful experience in the management, marketing (strategic, operational), sales, and medical, areas, with the Pierre Fabre, Johnson & Johnson and Merck KGaA groups, mostly in international responsibilities. In the latter, he headed Global Strategic Marketing, being in charge, with his teams, of various lines of products accounting for an annual turnover of around USD 4 billion (including Glucophage®, then the 7th drug worldwide saleswise, with still a +45% growth in 2001), as well as of several global business support teams. Even if the ethical drug business has represented the major part of his experience until now, Pascal had the opportunity to market medical devices and OTC products, too. Since 2003, Pascal has been providing strategic advice to several French biotechnology companies, spin-off projects from the prestigious Pasteur and Curie Institutes and from Genopole Evry. In 2004, he co-founded Pharmaxon and since then has been the CEO of this emerging, science-based, biopharmaceutical company headquarted in Marseilles, France. The company’s activities are devoted to the discovery and development of innovative cell mobility-based therapies, with an initial focus on lesions, degenerative diseases and tumors of the nervous system. He is also the General Manager of Bioméditerranée, the biocluster of Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, a leading European bioregion in the healthcare sector. Until recently he also served as the Secretary General to Orpheme, a French state-funded bi-regional “competitiveness cluster”, specializing in orphan diseases and emerging pathologies, which he contributed to create.
